Meet Miguel, your local guide in the Granada Geopark

Explore our desert

The Granada Geopark, declared a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2020, covers 4,722 km2 of 47 municipalities belonging to the regions of Guadix, Baza, Huéscar and Montes. It extends over an exceptional territory in the central sector of the Betic Cordillera surrounded by some of the highest mountains in the Iberian Peninsula, such as the Sierra de la Sagra or Sierra Nevada. The geology of the region has conditioned the life and culture of its inhabitants from prehistory to the present day.

Miguel Profile

Meet Miguel: Passion for Gorafe and the Granada Geopark

I am Miguel, a lifelong resident of Gorafe, a village full of history and surrounded by one of the most amazing landscapes in Europe. From a very young age I felt a deep connection with my land and a tireless curiosity about its past. This passion led me to study a Degree in Tourism Guide, Information and Assistance, as well as training in various courses on active tourism and the Granada Geopark itself.

For several years I worked with Turismo Rural Gorafe, which allowed me to acquire valuable experience exploring the Gorafe Desert and its surroundings. I know every corner of this place, its hidden paths, its geological richness and its millenary history.

How Geopark Granada Was Born

The idea of Geopark Granada arises with the intention of continuing the legacy of Massimo and Connie, who founded the original project. With their cessation of activity, I decided to take over the baton so that all the knowledge and effort invested would not be lost.

Today, from Geopark Granada, we organize 4x4 routes and walking tours through the most emblematic landscapes of the geopark, with special attention to the Gorafe Desert, an authentic geological and natural treasure. Its ravines, colors, fossils and unique formations tell a story of more than five million years.

We have 7-seater 4x4 vehicles prepared to safely access difficult-to-reach areas. Our experiences are designed with a responsible perspective, caring for the environment and always betting on sustainable tourism.
